Our Story
Russ and Kim Kathol opened Main Street Jewelers on June 3, 1996. Historic Plattsmouth NE with a population of 6,900, proved an ideal place for them to raise a family of four, yet stay close to the metro area. The original 800 sq. ft. store soon became too small, and over the next 20 years, and 2 additional relocations later, Main Street Jewelers occupies a 4,200 square foot location.
As with any business, not every day is a great day. On January 2, 2014, a fire erupted next door to the jewelry store, making national news, with a 7 alarm fire, destroying 3 adjoining buildings. Main Street Jewelers was forced to move to a 300 square foot, temporary location for 7 months while renovating their damaged business. Main Street Jewelers came back stronger, with an all new historic look and upgrades to their store.
Over the years, Main Street Jewelers expanded their jewelry selection, added giftware, a trophy shop, gun shop and tuxedo rentals. Russ & Kim's daughter DeAnne became a certified gemologist making them a second generation business. In recent years Main Street Jewelers has decided to focus on the jewelry and giftware lines and has eliminated the trophies, guns, and tuxes.
